DiaMed: Biocompatible Diamond-Like Coating for Medical Applications

DiaMed: Biocompatible Diamond-Like Coating for Medical Applications

There are various thin diamond-like coatings on the market today, each holding distinct purposes for various applications. With many thin films sharing similar characteristics, finding the right engineering solution for your business can be challenging.

Learn more about DiaMed® thin film and find out what sets it apart from other DLC coatings available to you!

1. DiaMed® is Created from Nano-Crystalline Diamond

With a deep black color, DiaMed® is an amorphous matrix created from layers of nano-crystalline diamond. The unique combination of these elements provides Industrial Hard Carbon with the properties that set it apart from other DLC coatings on the market.

As DiaMed conforms to substrates, it deposits evenly over all surfaces of a part or product.

2. Its Qualities can Only be Surpassed by Pure Diamond

DiaMed® is characterized by extreme hardness and high wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and lubricity. Its hardness is less than or equal to >8.1 HM > and operates from -200°Celsius to less than 350° Celsius.  DiaMed® significantly reduces wear resistance, protects the underlying substrate from most corrosive agents, and can withstand less than 46,000 psi tensile and compressive stresses and strain of 0.17 percent.

Furthermore,  the thermal conductivity of DiaMed® is less than 10 W/cm°K, and its electrical resistivity is less than 109-ohm cm, doping options to lower r. This DLC coating prompted a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction during laboratory tests and required torque in field applications compared to bare metal.

The qualities of DiaMed® can only be surpassed by pure diamond – because of this, our DLC coatings succeed where other thin-film coatings fail.

IHC Medical Applications

Industrial Hard Carbon is a diamond-like thin film coating that offers flexibility in many different applications, allowing it to succeed where other films fail. IHC is commonly used in applications where high wear-resistance, lubricity, and hardness represent important factors; the thin film can handle extreme conditions.

Our Solutions

Industrial Hard Carbon has developed coating processes that allow composite materials to receive performance-enhancing benefits under extreme conditions. We strive to reduce weight while increasing the durability of parts in high-temperature environments. Our solutions are applied by a highly-skilled team of professionals, who control every detail of the coating process, from the substrate to the surface, and our state-of-the-art vacuum chambers.
